Information From Louisiana and Open Ocean Trustees Webinar on Draft Restoration Plan for Chandeleur Islands

The Louisiana and Open Ocean Trustee Implementation Groups held a virtual public meeting for the Draft Joint Restoration Plan and Environmental Assessment #1: Restoring Wetlands, Coastal, and Nearshore Habitats, Federally Managed Lands, Fish and Water Column Invertebrates, Sea Turtles, Submerged Aquatic Vegetation, and Birds of the Chandeleur Islands (PDF, 104 pages) on June 26, 2025.

During the meeting, Trustee representatives provided information on a habitat restoration project with four action alternatives and a fisheries management project with 2 action alternatives and identified a preferred alternative for each project. The draft also considers a “No Action Alternative” . The presentation was followed by an opportunity for attendees to provide comments.

Public Comment

The draft plan was released on June 13, 2025. The Louisiana and Open Ocean Trustees are seeking public comment on the draft restoration plan through July 16, 2025. Comments can be submitted during the public comment period by one of the following methods:

  • Online:  https://parkplanning.nps.gov/LAOOTIGRP1    
  • U.S. Mail: Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, 150 Terrace Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70802. To be considered, mailed comments must be postmarked on or before July 16, 2025.  

The Louisiana and Open Ocean Trustee Implementation Groups will review all input received by mail and electronically. The Trustees will consider and address public comments before releasing a Final Restoration Plan. When approved, the Final Restoration Plan will be posted to the Gulf Spill Restoration website.
