The Alabama Trustee Implementation Group is making changes to the Research and Education Center element of the Phase III Early Restoration Gulf State Park Enhancement Project. The Research and Education Center was originally planned to be located near the existing Gulf State Park campground. After further engineering and design studies were conducted, a better site was identified near the Gulf State Park headquarters.
This new location has a number of benefits, including moving the facility away from the lake shoreline, allowing access to the facility separate from the camping check-in, and providing more space for outdoor education and recreation associated with the facility. In addition, the facility was redesigned from a single multi-story building to a series of smaller open-air structures and enclosed buildings and is now known as the Learning Campus.
