Biloxi Marsh Living Shoreline

The Biloxi Marsh project is a coastal restoration project that created bioengineered, marsh-fringing oyster reefs to promote the formation of self-sustaining living shoreline protection structures. Bioengineered oyster reefs were created by placing a manufactured product or products off the shoreline to establish a living breakwater structure. Approximately 11.5 miles of reef breakwaters, marine mattresses, and/or rock revetments was constructed.

LA TIG Restoration Plan-Environmental Assessment #7: Birds and Wetlands, Coastal, and Nearshore Habitats

This Plan was finalized in November 2020 and approved DWH restoration projects in Louisiana under the "birds" and "wetlands, coastal, and nearshore habitats" restoration types. It includes five projects which have a total estimated cost of $234.6 million for Engineering and Design (E&D) and Construction.

Chitimacha Boat Launch

LA TIG Restoration Plan #6: Wetlands, Coastal, and Nearshore Habitats

The Louisiana Trustee Implementation Group approved the Final Restoration Plan and Environmental Assessment #6: Restore and Conserve Wetlands, Coastal, and Nearshore Habitats in 2020. The final plan includes three projects, which together, are expected to create or restore more than 1,900 acres of marsh, beach, and dune habitat and protect more than 11.5 miles of shoreline.

Lake Charles Science Center and Educational Complex

The Project will be housed in a science center operated by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries that will include immersive exhibits, walking trails, aquaria, and touch tanks to educate visitors on topics including, but not limited to, coastal habitats, Gulf of America aquatic resources, fisheries/fisheries management, and restoration programs. Walking trails will support programs and/or signage to educate the public on Louisiana’s natural environment and wildlife.

Louisiana Secretive Marsh Bird Habitat Relationships and Distributions in Selected Coastal Louisiana Marshes

This Monitoring and Adaptive Management (MAM) activity will address significant informational needs for secretive marsh birds (SMB), including overall population numbers, predictive SMB habitat relationships, and benefits to SMBs provided by coastal restoration projects. The project will identify key features that could be added to coastal restoration projects which benefit SMBs to facilitate future restoration planning and implementation activities for this suite of species by the Louisiana Trustee Implementation Group (LA TIG).
